Lash Aftercare
Eyelash extensions require diligent aftercare. How long your lashes will last depends on you and how well you care for them. It is also important to care for your lashes to prevent infections and maintain the health of your natural lashes.
Avoid getting your eyelashes wet for 24-48 hours after your appointment(this includes excessive sweating). Avoid showering, washing your eyes, or exposing your lashes to steam.
Do not touch or pick at your lashes. Oils from your fingers will break down the eyelash glue, and you may end up pulling out natural lashes.
Brush your lashes daily. Every client is provided with spoolies for brushing their lashes upon leaving their appointment. It is important to brush them in the morning and again in the evening. I like to carry a spoolie with me during the day so I can fix any out-of-place lashes and avoid touching my lashes.
Ensure you are using only oil-free products on your face, especially around the eye. Use gentle products and be cautious of oil-based face creams and makeup remover, as they can dissolve the eyelash glue.
Cleanse your lashes 3-4 times per week, as well as after working out or swimming. If you wear makeup daily, you should cleanse your lashes every night. Using an extension-safe foaming cleanser and eyelash cleansing brush, gently wash your lashes and pat dry. If possible, ensure they are completely dry by using a handheld rechargeable fan(not a blow dryer, as the temperature is much too hot and will damage the lashes). Do not curl your eyelash extensions. This can pull out eyelash extensions and damage your natural lashes.
Be mindful of your makeup use. Use water-based eyeliner, and be sure to clean your lashes thoroughly after makeup removal.
Avoid sleeping on your side or stomach. If you naturally sleep face down in your pillow, do your best to try sleeping on your back, or without your lashes being squished. Friction with the pillowcase can cause lashes to fall out faster.
Schedule your fills. Your lashes naturally shed and grow over time, and every person's lashes are different, but you should expect to need a fill in 2-4 weeks after your initial appointment. Scheduling in advance is a good practice, as I may not be available at short notice.
